Are you really good at something like in sports for instance? Have you ever received a Most Valuable Player Award in a basketball tournament or a medal in a spelling bee contest?

Hard work, perseverance and loyalty. These qualities are usually rewarded with various awards and recognition. Award programs have been institutionalized in schools, government units, offices and even the military. Recognition is given to individuals who have performed their duties and responsibilities exceedingly well over a specified period of time. Because these individuals helped in making their organizations better and stronger, recognizing their efforts is a way of giving thanks --- a common practice in society even in the good old days.

Award programs are introduced as early as their first year in formal education, as outstanding students are given medals or certificates for getting excellent marks in a subject. Awards are also given in other extra-curricular activities such as sporting events, theater, and other subject specific tourneys such as spelling bees and marathon math contests.

Award programs provide numerous categories for the awards they hand out to employees. Some, like awards for milestones in service tenure, will take a long time and require dedication and loyalty. Still, there are awards that do not take very long to accomplish, including annual awards for performance-based recognition.

An individual can get recognition for being dedicated and loyal and for achieving certain milestones in service. On the other hand, some awards are performance-based that come periodically. Today, there are many companies specializing in the production of various employee awards. Some examples of such are lapel pins, tie-tacks, rings and even high-end watches. You can check out the Internet for more examples of awards that are usually given in ceremonies.
