Technology can be a bit confusing when you are dealing with terminology. Take for example LCD and plasma TVs and how most people do not realize that there is a distinct difference. Sure both are flat screen televisions, but the technology behind that glorious clear picture is vastly different.
To further that misconception, you can factor in how the LCD and plasma flat screen televisions are different than the typical cathode-ray tv sets still found in many households. If you want to get really confusing, not every flat screen television or flat screen monitor is actually plasma or LCD. Confusing isn't it?
The main difference between LCD and plasma TVs is what is put between the two pieces of glass that make up the picture. Plasma TVs have gas which produces the color and LCD uses liquid crystals.
The phosphors make pixels which make up the picture. An LCD is two sheets of glass, but has liquid crystal instead. Rather than charging the particles, the crystal cells filter the colors.
So the question remains, between the two, which one is the best? When deciding it is inportant to note that plasma televisions will experience what is called "screen burn", caused by a heat build up when the set is left on too long.
If a static image remains on the screen for a long time, screen burn happens and the image stays on the screen permanently. This can also easily happen with computer monitors.
